Welcome to Simply Steam. Your effective, easy to use & affordable hay steamer

My steam generator gets to temperature and then stops boiling.

The steam generator needs to be descaled.
If the steam generator is not turning on at all, please leave the descaling solution inside the unit to soak overnight, then try turning it on again in the morning.
Even if you have been descaling regularly, limescale can still build up over time, so allowing the solution to soak overnight is important to help remove any remaining deposits.

My Steam generator isn’t turning on.

Has the unit been descaled?

If the steam generator is tripping the electrics, this indicates that the heating element has failed and the unit will need replacing.

This is most commonly caused by:

  • Lack of regular descaling, which leads to limescale buildup on the element, or

  • Using the unit on a surface that is not flat and level. If the generator is positioned on a slope, the water level can sit higher at the front of the unit. This exposes the rear of the heating element while it is still boiling, which will damage and ultimately destroy the element.

Once the element has failed, the generator will trip the electrics as a safety measure and cannot be repaired.

If you are in an EU country, did you purchase a heavy-duty adaptor plug with the item?

Please try using a new electrical timer plug first, as a faulty timer can cause issues

Why is the water inside my steam generator has gone brown and discoloured?

Either the hose is blocked or frozen, or there is too much water in the bottom of the box. This can cause water to be forced back into the steam generator.
If this occurs, unplug the unit immediately and allow it to cool fully. Once cooled, empty any excess water from the box and check where the issue has originated.
Refill the steam generator as required and only turn the unit back on once all components are clear and properly reconnected.

Why does my steam generator have steam escaping?

The hose or the bottom of the box may be blocked or frozen.
Please detach the steam generator from all attachments and test it on its own. If it operates normally, this indicates the issue is within the box or the hose.
Next, attach only the hose and allow the unit to steam without connecting it to the box. If the issue occurs at this stage, the hose is likely blocked or frozen.
If the problem does not appear to be with the box or hose, please check that the black pressure valve on the steam generator is not blocked, stuck, or obstructed.

Why is the black plastic box leaking?

If this is the first time the item has been used, then the damage would have occurred in transit.
However, if the Hay steamer has been in use for some time and a crack has developed, this would be classed as accidental damage. The unit is a one-piece plastic moulded product and would not crack under normal use without being dropped, knocked over, or subjected to impact.
In this situation, the damage is not a manufacturing fault and a replacement unit would need to be purchased.

The plastic hose has broken.

This issue is most commonly caused by accidental damage when the hose has not been detached before emptying or moving the box.
If the end of the hose has snapped off, it will need to be replaced. Replacement hoses are available to purchase on our website.

Why is the black box making a noise while its turned on?

There is too much water in the bottom of the box.
Please turn the unit off immediately and allow it to cool fully before handling. Once cooled, carefully tip out the excess water and fully drain the system.
After this, restart the unit and continue as normal.
